— Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd, Carson City, NV 89701, in the south parking lot, next to the Linear Ditch Trail. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City! Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building.
— Physical Theatre and Yoga Experience in Virginia City. 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Mary’s Art Center, 55 North R Street. Theatre professional Martin A. David and Yoga instructor Carol Garlington present a Creativity Workshop involving physical theatre and yoga experience. Come enjoy theatre games, imagination exercises and more at St. Mary’s Art Center. Come ready to move freely and have fun.
— Day Out with Thomas on the V&T Railroad. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Virgina and Truckee Depot, 166 F Street. Day Out With Thomas “Big Adventures Tour 2019” is a family event that offers aspiring engineers and their families the unique opportunity to take a 25-minute ride with the classic storybook engine, along with fun activities including temporary tattoos, face painting, storytelling, train play tables, mini golf a shop at the Thomas store and more.
— Carson Victory Rollers. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Second Annual “Battle for the Silver Skate” No. B4SS Tournament hosted by your local roller derby team, the Carson Victory Rollers, returns as a featured activity for the Nevada Day weekend festivities.
— RSVP Nevada Day Carnival: 12 to 8 p.m. at Mills Park. Mills Park in Carson City Carnival rides for adults and children, live music, food booths, craft vendors & more. All-day ride wristbands are $30; $5 Discount Coupons available at RSVP website, RSVP office, & RSVP booth. Proceeds assist seniors to help them remain independent and at home with dignity.
— Nevada Day Pow Wow. 12 p.m. at 1860 Russell Way. Open to the public, the Nevada Day Pow Wow is held at the MAC Center/Boys & Girls Club in Carson City each year during the Nevada Day weekend in October. This public event showcases Native American/First Nations dancing and singing, also a wide variety of Craft and Food vendors are on site. There is a Hand Game Tournament, HorseShoe Tournament, Youth 3 on 3 Tournament and new this year, Corn Hole Tournament.
— Pumpkin Tart and Soup at Sierra Chef. 12 to 3 p.m. at 2292 Main St. Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. Join us for a “The Versatile Roast Pumpkin – Tart & Soup” Cooking Class on Sunday, October 27. $75 per person.
— Nevada Raider Nation: Carson City Chapter Game Watch. 1:25 p.m. at Jimmy G’s, 301 N. Carson Street. Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter welcomes all Raiders fans to watch the Raiders vs Texans this Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1:25 p.m., at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The Chapter will host a potluck, and Jimmy G's will offer drink specials for Chapter members. A 50/50 drawing will also be held. Winner must be present to win.
— Children's Museum SAFE Halloween. 5 to 7 p.m. Join us at the Children’s Museum for a night of trick or treating and SAFE Halloween fun from 5:00-7:00.
— Hauntober returns to Virginia City. Throughout the month of October, Virginia City will be hosting several events to shine light on its spooky past. Virginia City boasts its notoriety of being one of the three most haunted towns in the United States, along with Savannah and Charleston. Otherworldly “haunts” exist during Halloween as Virginia City celebrates its ghostly history and offers a month of ghost experiences. Want to have your own paranormal experience? — October Open House at the Wungnema House in Mills Park. 2 p.m. Looking for something a bit different to close out your Nevada Day Weekend? Stop by the east side of Mills Park on Sunday, September 29th to visit the historic Wungnema House during the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s monthly open house. The open house is from 2 to 5:00 p.m. and there is no admission fee, and all are welcome. The Wungnema House is the charming stone cottage located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after WWII and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s. Learn about the remarkable family of skilled Hopi stonemasons, their work, and continuing legacy. The family was responsible not only for this house, but also many other distinctive homes and structures in and around the Carson City area, including a ranch in Washoe Valley and at least one church at Lake Tahoe. The family moved from the house in the early 1970s. In 1977, it was purchased by a developer, whose plans to turn the house into a restaurant fell through, after which the city acquired the house. The Wungnema House fell into disrepair and became subject to on-going vandalism until 1999, at which time, with a grant from the National Park Service and Quality of Life Initiative funds, Carson City was able to restore the house to serve as a museum and meeting place for small community groups and organizations.
